"What You Must Know
about the Lumix Digital
Cameras"
This page is based on the Panasonic Lumix
DMC-TZ5 camera which isn't super expensive, but, there are
cheaper cameras out there, if you are just shopping for a cheap
camera the TZ5 probably isn't for you.
If you are looking for a camera that will
take great pictures in various situations, including driving 40
MPH (this is something I did with it and was amazed when the
picture was crystal clear), you'll want to keep
reading.
In what kind of situations can you take
pictures you ask? Ok, here they are,
-
Portrait
-
Soft skin
-
Self Portrait
-
Scenery
-
Sports
-
Night Portrait
-
Night Scenery
-
Food
-
Party
-
Candle Light
-
Baby1
-
Baby2
-
Pet
-
Sunset (this works GREAT!)
-
High Sensitivity
-
Hi Speed Burst (Takes multiple pictures with one
push of the button)
-
Starry Sky
-
Fireworks
-
Beach
-
Snow
-
Aerial Photo
-
Underwater (the camera is not waterproof, you will
have to purchase a waterproof shell for it)
-
Multi Aspect ( I really don't know what this does
but it is a situation, I guess)
The camera also has an "auto"
mode which if you're like me you'll use most of
the time, but there are times when you'll need a "great shot"
and the TZ5 will be ready when you are!
If you like a nice sunset, you are going to
love that setting. You'll take better shots of
sunsets than you ever have.
Below is the first sunset picture I took
with the TZ5, sunsets are each unique, there are few things as
enjoyable as sitting and watching the sun go down!

I really do like a nice sunset, if you have
pictures of your own I'd love to see them, I'd also like to add
a page on this site of nothing but sunsets from around the
world. So, if you have sunset pictures that you'd like to share
with us please send them to me. Please let me know where the
picture was taken and if you'd like your name listed with the
picture. Email it to david@TVandCamera.com
Zoom Back to

Is zooming in close important to you?
Panasonic Lumix Digital Cameras, (at least the TZ5)
offer a 10X optical zoom and a 4X digital zoom. The numbers
don't add up to me, but you wind up with a 16.9X zoom.
Here are 2 pictures taken from the same
spot. Do you see the leaf in about the middle of the picture on
the left? Now look at it on the right at 16.9X zoom.
Some features are just to make you a better
photographer,
On the 3" display, bring up the optional
grid to line up your pictures better - this sounds
silly, but after using it once you won't want to take
a picture without it - I promise!
The TZ5 will automatically pick out and put
blocks around faces on the screen so that you can line up the
shot better. This does help with the picture taking but it is
also fun to show your friends how smart
your camera is!
This camera comes with some great software
you can store your pictures or touch them up a little if
needed.
Shutter speed
You can take a clear picture moving
40 miles per hour! I know that isn't technical, but
you can do it!
You'll love the clarity of the pictures you
take with the TZ5, even at 40 miles per hour.
Reset speed
Have you ever owned a digital camera that
seemed to take forever to reset after taking a picture, keeping
you from taking another shot that you really wish you could
have captured?
It's frustrating isn't it? This camera
resets in about 3 seconds, not warp speed but a lot faster than
many others.
Size
Guys, You will be able to store this camera
in a cargo pocket or any pocket of a pair of loose fitting
pants.
Ladies, you have an advantage here, you will
be able to slip this camera in your pocket or even in a small
purse.
The camera measures just under 1-1/2" thick
4" long and 2-1/4" tall.
Battery
The battery is rechargeable.
You will be able to shoot around 200
pictures and 6-8 fairly long videos with one charge. I am not a
fan of rechargeable batteries in cameras but this one works
well and if needed you can buy a spare. And hey it's
environmentally friendly, less batteries in
the landfill is a good thing!

That is pretty much it, if you'd like to
read my story about what my wife and I put this camera through
please keep reading. If you don't you can find all the
technical details about the camera toward the bottom of this
page.
I also invite you to take a look at
more pictures that I've taken with the TZ5, just
click on the "view picture album" toward the top right of this
page.
If you like the information I've given and
would like more information click here Lumix Digital Cameras.
Thanks a lot for
visiting!
If you have any
questions about the TZ5 shoot me an email at
david@tvandcamera.com I'll
get you an answer as soon as I can.
If you want to know "how I know all the
features above" read this next story, it was a great time.
Be sure to watch the video
below too, it's a great example of the TZ5
abilities.

My wife and I were getting
ready to go on vacation, I had wanted a more
compact camera for some time.
To make a long story short,
I went camera shopping the day before we left
on vacation.
My
requirements
-
Small enough to fit in my pocket (I
hate carrying a camera around my
neck or even on my belt)
-
A super close zoom feature.
-
High megapixels (this one has an
awsome 9.1)
This wasn't as easy as I
thought it would be since the Christmas crowds
virtually wiped out the camera selection in the
stores.
I happened to see a friend
in Best Buy that had purchased a panasonic
digital camera the day before. He showed me the
camera and some of the pictures it took, it
also offered a video feature. (a bonus I wasn't
even looking for).
It fit in my
pocket!
I was really excited to see
this camera, I could imagine taking a quick
picture and slipping the camera back in my
pocket, rather than having my old heavy (not
very good picture taking) camera around my neck
getting in the way of everything!
I bought the camera and had
time to charge the battery and take a few
practice pictures while packing to leave.
Had a 16X zoom total
The pictures came out great,
super clear and the 10X zoom + a digital zoom
wound up getting up to 16X zoom total. This was
so close up I could take a picture and look
like I was standing right next to someone and
be far enough away they were unaware I was even
taking the picture. (A great feature for
sneaking pictures of my wife!).
We wound up in Costa Maya
Mexico on vacation and went on a tour driving a
Yamaha Rhino, (This was a really fun vehicle,
it goes fast on the road and went through some
really swampy paths in the Costa Mayan
jungle).
On the road we made it up to
70km per hour which is about 40mph. We were
snapping pictures of everything, we figured we
could delete them later if they didn't turn out
or we didn't want them.
I was amazed at the
pictures we took
To my amazement, the
pictures we took even at top speed turned out.
I've never had a camera that was capable of
doing that.

This picture was taken
moving about 40mph!
We took Video's
too
We took quite a bit of
video on the trip too here is one of
them.
We were happy to have the
TZ5 here because we were able to quickly switch
to video and capture this moment that we will
enjoy watching for years.
